Banksy hangs original painting in foyer of Southampton General Hospital’s emergency department in honor of their work battling Covid-19.

  • Along with the painting, Banksy left a note that reads, “Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if its only black and white.”
  • The original painting shows a young boy kneeling by a wastepaper basket dressed in dungarees and a T-shirt. The boy has discarded his older superheroes action figures, Batman and Spiderman, for a new superhero – a NHS nurse.
  • The hospital says the painting will remain at the hospital until Fall when it will be auctioned to raise money for the National Health Service.
  • Paula Head, CEO of the University of Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said, “The fact that Banksy has chosen us to recognize the outstanding contribution everyone in and with the NHS is making, in unprecedented times, is a huge honor.”
