Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits Nevada. Quake felt in California and Utah.

  • USGS says the 6.5 magnitude quake hit western Nevada about 4:03 AM about 35 miles west of Tonopah and just east of the Sierra Nevada range.
  • The quake struck about 4.7 miles deep.
  • Dozens of aftershocks have been recorded including two with estimated magnitudes of 4.9.
  • No reports of injuries but some highways shutdown to be checked for damage.
