The state reports 73 cases of the mysterious illness that produces a toxic shock-like reaction with symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease.
Gov. Andrew Coumo warns this is “an entirely new chapter” of the disease that previously had believed to only cause minor complications in children. “The illness has taken the lives of three young New Yorkers. This is new. This is developing.”
None of the children displayed respiratory problems typically associated with Covid-19 but each tested positive for the virus.
Kawasaki disease causes the immune system to “go into overdrive”. Symptoms include fever, rashes, and conjunctivitis. In severe cases it inflames the walls of arteries affecting bloodflow to the heart. This new disease is known to also cause gastronomical problems.
